Calling all student ensembles and coaches!  Come to the International Women's Brass Conference at Western Michigan University June 6-10, 2012 and perform!  The International Women’s Brass Conference will feature amazing brass artists, exhibitors, the prestigious IWBC competition, and a chance for all participants to PLAY on June 6-10, 2012 at Western Michigan University.  The Call for Presenters deadline has been extended to November 14 and we particularly need more student ensemble proposals--submit your proposal today.

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) community honors the memory of Andrew Howell on October 23, 2011. A CCM junior from Charlotte, N.C., Howell was a member of the horn studio and a student of Randy Gardner’s at the time of his tragic, untimely death on October 23. 2010.

Local and visiting horn players will unite on stage to remember and celebrate the life Andrew Howell. The CCM Esprit de Cor Horn Choir, members of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra horn section, the Ohio State University Horn Choir and the Indiana University Horn Sextet will each perform. The program will conclude with all of the groups performing in a combined horn choir under the direction of Randy Gardner, Professor of Horn at CCM.

This event is free and open to the general public. Donations to the Andrew Howell Memorial Scholarship Fund are encouraged.

CCM will be accepting contributions to the Andrew Howell Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Oct. 23 concert, and will continue to accept donations throughout the year.

Robert Ward, Nicole Cash lead the horns at Art of Sound Festival

In July 2011, the ninth summer of the “Art of Sound” Summer Brass Institute and Festival featured San Francisco Symphony Principal Horn Robert Ward and Associate Principal Nicole Cash. Horn participants from all over the United States enjoyed stimulating opportunities to learn and play. Nicole Cash, recently appointed Associate Principal horn in the Symphony, was featured soloist in an evening of brass chamber music with fellow professionals and student Fellowship recipients. She solo’d in the Philip Jones arrangement of Danserye; she lyrically phrased a haunting horn solo in Vicky Greenbaum’s brass sextet arrangement of Mahler’s Ich Bin Der Welt Abhanden Gekommen; and she led her fellow horns in a fleet rendition Plog’s Scherzo for full brass ensemble.
