Can anyone make recommendations about a microphone to use to record myself playing horn (for personal use/sharing with friends and family)? I've tried using my phone and the sound is tinny and not that pleasant. Price is a concern for me.

Have you tried playing in other rooms or locations? The 'room acoustics' might make a difference. A fairly large room with hard walls / floor / ceiling if available - or parking garage, large building stairwell, etc.
