The Yamaha Vienna Philharmonic Horn, Model YHR-601

Does anyone have information about the Yamaha YHR-601 horn? It is a model on the Yamaha United States website. I have realized that the single Bb horn is the type for me. I started on a single F horn in 1964. Didn't have a double horn until about ten years ago. I got a single Bb horn about four years ago, but had it only a few months. Got another in April 2022. I just can't seem to use a double horn in rapid passages. Remembering two sets of fingerings and using the thumb for fingering are beyond me, except when improvising, which I do by myself sometimes. The light weight and the simplicity of the single Bb horn that I have really inspire me. Mine is still out for some soldering. Will get it back on July 1st. It is the Yamaha YHR-321. A beginner's horn. Someday I may be seriously in the market for a professional level single Bb horn. Is the YHR-601 an "all-around" horn?

First-off, the typical 'Vienna horn' is a single F (not Bb), and from description and pictures of the YHR-601, it is a single F.
My 'never played one' understanding of Vienna horns is that their sound can be somewhat different than typical orchestra double horns. I'm sure it could be used as a 'general purpose' horn for most amateur situations, but it might not be ideal - different tone quality, and loudness.

Also since the valve action is different, it reacts differently. Really smooth slurs though.

Thank you, Jay. It hadn't occurred to me that it would be a single F horn. I've seen the Vienna Philharmonic playing on television, and the entire horn section were playing those horns. I wonder if they can play the high range easily compared to Bb or double F and Bb horns.

Thank you, Elaine. The single F horn is really fun for me to play. I haven't had one in good condition since the 1980's. The fact that the Yamaha Vienna Philharmonic Horn, Model YHR-601 produces really smooth slurs sounds great. Such passages were very inspiring--with wide slurs (legato leaps) to play.

High range is typically played more easily and more reliably on the shorter Bb instrument (or Bb side of double). The longer F horn is often viewed as having a more mellow than the Bb - but it all depends on the skill and tone-concept of the individual player, either horn can sound very good.
