Description

This is a double French horn, Conn 8D, N series (serial number N45252), nickel silver, produced in Elkhart, IN — a rare find and very prized instrument (they literally don't make them like this anymore!). It has a deep, rich, warm sound, truly remarkable and unlike anything else I've ever played. It brought me so much joy to play on this instrument, and I would love for it to go to someone else who will enjoy and treasure it the way I did.

In terms of the technical specs and service history, I can't speak for its previous life (I got it used around 2007-2008), but while it was with me, it sustained a dent in the bell during air travel and was then repaired by a guy named Merlin Grady (if you live in Iowa, check him out!) who did a great job. The valves were restrung at some point while I had it, so they're looking great as well. I also just got it professionally cleaned at Cadenza Music in Saint Paul, MN, so everything is in good working order. Overall, it's in great condition for its age.

I will also throw in the mouthpiece (couldn't tell you what the make/model of the mouthpiece is, sorry), leather hand grip, well-used but also well-padded hard case, and a mute. If you live in the Twin Cities area or are willing to drive from elsewhere in Minnesota or nearby states, we can arrange for a local pickup instead of shipping; otherwise I would ask that you pay for the cost of shipping to wherever you live, and you can stipulate how you want it shipped (which company, insurance, etc.). Locals can also arrange to try playing it first before you decide if you want to buy. PRICE IS NEGOTIABLE.
