Description

Paxman Cor D’ Orchestre: Pair

PRICE REDUCED:  I am selling my natural horns, a matched pair of Paxman Cors D’ Orchestre, serial numbers 784:1 and 784:2. I am the only owner, having purchased these instruments directly from Paxman in May of 1984. As you know, most orchestral works of the period called for two horns, and one of the difficulties for modern performers of period instruments is finding a matched pair. Paxman states in their literature:

“In designing the PAXMAN Cor D’ Orchestre, RICHARD MEREWETHER observed the French instruments of the late 18th and early 19th centuries and has succeeded, by observing the flaws in these and through slight amendments to the bore, in now presenting a hand horn fully playable in every required key.”

I felt that these were the most authentic reproductions available at the time, and they still may be. They are in perfect condition, yes, mint. Not a single dent with one exception, the C alto crook for #1 has a small dent. I have not polished the horns as I feel they perhaps better represent original period instruments with natural tarnish. They will polish as new if you desire. The crooks included are: C alto, Bb alto, A, G, F, E, Eb, D, C basso, a coupler when used with C basso gives Bb basso, and a baroque slide for lower pitched tuning.

I would like to sell them as a pair, as they would serve their best purpose in ensemble or solo performances of period instruments, or in a university or conservatory with a program of historic performance practices. However, please do not hesitate to contact me if you are only interested in one of these instruments.

It is difficult to know what Paxman would charge for these instruments if they were building them today.  I am reducing my asking price to $5,900.00 for each, still negotiable.
