Qualifications
One of the things I enjoy about teaching privately is the ability to customize a curriculum based on the students' goals. I teach a wide variety of horn players. Some are 5th graders picking up the horn for the first time, just hoping to get a good grade in band. Middle schoolers who have been switched to horn from other instruments, hoping to catch up to the level of the other students often come my way. Students in high school and college frequently hire me to help prepare them for upcoming auditions for placement in school ensembles, honor bands, and festivals. And adult students, ranging from the person who hasn't picked up the horn since high school, to professionals looking for help with embouchure analysis come to me as well. Some of my students are weekly, others are project/goal based. I find that my experience as both a hornist and cocktail pianist, and my exposure to many different types of music from all periods and genres, gives me particular insight into phrasing and 'feel.' Additionally, I have a well versed background in Nutrition, Fitness, and Alternative medicine. Integrating this knowledge with a focus on holistic body awareness, and my experience as a musician, aids my students in developing effective methods of self analysis and efficiency for Horn playing, sports, and life in general. I have a Bachelor Degree in Horn Performance, with outside studies in Piano and Composition, from Indiana University. I have been performing professionally for 17 years, and privately teaching and coaching for 10 years.
