The Utah State University Music Department seeks a dynamic artist-teacher of French horn. This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position.
Review of applications begins November 15, 2023, and continues until filled. The position start date is August 2024.
Primary responsibilities include recruiting, teaching, and administration of the horn studio; coordinating and conducting appropriate brass master classes; and assisting in the instrumental performance, band, and music education programs. Other duties might include conducting as part of the band faculty, participation in the music education program, and teaching additional courses that correspond to the strengths of the successful applicant and departmental needs.
Doctorate or master’s degree in Music with significant professional experience at the national/international levels. Candidates within one year of completion of DMA may be initially hired at the rank of Instructor, and moved to the rank of Assistant Professor the following academic year after completion of the degree. The successful candidate will be an accomplished teacher and performing musician with an engaging teaching manner and outstanding interpersonal skills. Administered by the Caine College of the Arts, the Music Department has 30 full-time and 38 part-time faculty members serving nearly 300 music majors. Located in the Chase Fine Arts Center, departmental facilities include teaching/rehearsal space; faculty offices; the 1,700-seat newly remodeled Daines Concert Hall; and the award-winning 420-seat Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall dedicated in January of 2006. The Department offers the Bachelor of Music in Performance, the Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance & Pedagogy, the Bachelor of Music in Education, the Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy, the Bachelor of Arts in Music, a Master of Music in Piano Performance & Pedagogy, a Master of Music in Choral Conducting, a Master of Music in Voice Performance, and a Master of Music in Guitar Performance.
