I think the Mozart Concertos, may be the solo pieces for horn with more more avaliable editions. There a general feeling among horn players for urtex editions, the "clear ones" without any added slurs or dynamics, even so there are some "clean editon". In your opinion wich is the best editon? (in terms of autenticity).

mulțumesc

More authentic are the Urtext editions. The soloparts, written during Mozarts time, mostly were not overfilled with dynamic (or other) signs. The solist had a chance to play it his way, with his intentions. This was a general praxis by this time. On the other hand, there always is a rule for interpretation into the music (score) itself if you can read and understand it. Most modernized editions overtake the singns (may be written by later copyists) into the score and the solopart. The performers at Mozarts time didnt need signs, because they knew, how the music was to play! The didnt knew anything about "romantic" influence an all the modern stuff like Jazz- or Popmusic. Ergo: Signs were unnecessary. A good musican always can make differences between all styles of music. For example: At Barockmusic or Vienna Classic you have to play two coupled /8 notes or two /4 notes coupled by a slur-arch (Bindebogen) this way: Emphasize the first tone and phrase down (abphrasieren) the second one. At romantic music both notes are equal.
Very good rules to learn interpretation of this kind of music:
Leopold Mozart: Gründliche Violinschule (Thorough Violinmethode)
Johann Ernst Altenburg: Versuch einer Anleitung zur heroisch-musikalischen Trompeter und Paukerkunst (Try of a methode to the heroic-musical trumpeter and tympaniart.
Edward Tarr: Die Kunst des Barocktrompetenspiels (Band 1-3) (The Art of Barocktrumpetplaying Vol. 1-3) Those books by Tarr are written in both, german and english!

Specialy the Mozart book shows, that a lot of modernized scores and parts are written wrong!

A special tip from me:
Divertimenti (Parthien / Partita) also calld Feldmusik (fieldmusic) or Harmoniemusik by Joseph Haydn for two oboes, two horns and two fagotti (bassoons). The scores are edit by "Musikverlag Doblinger, Wien" (Austria) and the CD from the "Haydn Ensemble Berlin" (members of Berlin Philharmonic) by "campanella music" (c130069)
This simple pieces shows impressiv and exactly the art of barockmusic. The scores are original Haydn and the CD is perfect! Prefaces and booklets are in both, german and english.
The CD inculd:
Hob II:15
Hob II:23
Hob II:7
Hob II:14
Hob II:18
Hob II:3
Hob deest G-Dur (G-major)
Hob deest D-Dur
