Rules and Repertoire Requirements

Horn Quartet Competition — Youth Division

Repertoire

  1. Select a minimum of 7 minutes of music, not to exceed 15 minutes.
  2. Group may select a single movement(s) out of a multi-movement work.
  3. Remaining program should be diverse and should highlight the Quartet’s strengths.

Competition Rules and Regulations

  1. All Quartet members must be born on January 1, 2006 or later. Members can be students; the only criterion is age.
  2. All Quartet members must be registered for the full week of IHS 58.
  3. Competition registration deadline is May 20, 2026.
  4. Individual members are responsible for their own travel, room and board, IHS 58 registration, etc.
  5. One Quartet member should be designated as the contact person and should complete the registration form.
  6. The IHS 58 Horn Quartet Competition Committee has the right to cancel a winner at no cost to IHS 58 if the winner fails to abide by all Competition Rules and Regulations.
  7. Competition Judges reserve the right to not declare a winner.
  8. Quartets may not perform with a conductor.
  9. Winning Quartet will perform at the Awards Concert, which is planned on Saturday, July 11, 2026 (may be changed).
  10. For those wishing to apply for multiple competitions, please submit separate forms.

Horn Quartet Competition — University Division

Repertoire

  1. Repertoire:
    1. obligatory piece: Feliks Rybicki – Wariacje for 4 Horns op. 60 (ca. 9 minutes) ed. Daniel Lienhard
      The parts are available here
    2. program on your choice a minimum of 5 minutes of music, not to exceed 10 minutes.
  2. Group may select a single movement(s) out of a multi-movement work.
  3. Order of program performance depends on the quartet.
  4. Remaining program should be diverse and should highlight the Quartet’s strengths.

  1. All Quartet members must be born on January 1, 2000 or later. Members can be professionals; the only criterion is age.
  2. All Quartet members must be registered for the full week of IHS 58.
  3. Competition registration deadline is May 20, 2026.

  2. Group may select a single movement(s) out of a multi-movement work.
  3. Remaining program should be diverse and should highlight the Quartet’s strengths.

Repertoire

  1. There is no age limit.
  2. The division is addressed to horn players who are not working as professionals.
  3. All Quartet members must be registered for the full week of IHS 58.
  4. Competition registration deadline is May 20, 2026.
  5. Individual members are responsible for their own travel, room and board, IHS 58 registration, etc.
  6. One Quartet member should be designated as the contact person and should complete the registration form.
