About 34 years professional teaching & performance experience. I have regional & major orchestral experience as well as successful teaching at all levels, from beginner to college graduate students. My MM & DMA are from Michigan State University, & my dissertation was a history of solo jazz horn. I also taught American Studies at Michigan State University and at Wayne State University. My students regularly win positions in the Tennessee All State Bands and Orchestras, as well as in All National ensembles. They also go to Governor’s School, almost always on full scholarship. This year a student has been awarded scholarship and financial aid the attend the Interlochen Orchestra Camp for 6 weeks. I am dedicated to the success of my students. i make certain that I am I informed about the current horn world through contacts with other horn players and teachers and through my membership in the International Horn Society.

Failed back surgery in 2013 prevented continued playing, so I have dedicated my efforts to be the very best teacher I can be. I have maintained a private horn studio first in Michigan & now in Shelby County Tennessee, and encourage membership in youth orchestras. My students have placed in the GM/ Seventeen & the NACS solo competitions that were national in scope. I teach each student in accordance with his or her best learning style.

Played in major & regional orchestras on Michigan, Arkansas, Tennessee, & Ohio. Chamber music experience includes woodwind & brass quintets, and music with strings & voice. I play jazz horn, & have performed in major master classes with Eric Ruske & Steve Gross, among others. I specialized in jazz horn during my DMA & have presented master classes about the evolution of the horn as a solo jazz instrument.

Orchestral preparation, audition preparation, preparation for college auditions and playin.g. I focus on mastery of basic skills, and am willing to give as much time as each student needs to meet his or her goals. I understand the demands placed on high school and middle school students today and try to coordinate practice demands with homework and school.activities, including sports.

I prefer that students begin lessons before ever starting band class at school. Beginners then learn correctly and things like current or future braces are not problems. I teach every level from beginner through advanced college level. I also teach adults who want to begin horn, resume playing it, or who are advanced level students.

I teach at home studio on Rich Road, just east of White Station Road.

$30 per hour.
