Barbara Chinworth (1939-2022) was a beloved IHS member and symposium attendee for many years. She gathered hornists from all walks of life to play together, enjoy fellowship, and support each other in the mutual love of the horn. After Barbara passed away, friends created and anonymously funded the Barbara Chinworth Project in her memory to provide grants specifically for amateur horn players and enthusiasts.
Awards from the fund may be used for, for example:
- attending horn days, workshops, or symposiums
- horn day or horn choir activities
- Area Representative activites and expenses
- Other uses (specify)
Applicants must be IHS members and must be amateurs/enthusiasts. Applicants are asked to certify that they are amateurs, which means that they are an adult not making a living from playing or teaching horn.
Grants may be awarded for up to US$500. Apply for funds by logging in to the IHS website and filling out the application form or by contacting the executive director at exec-director@hornsociety.org. Include sufficient details for evaluation.
Applications will be evaluated by a review committee as they are submitted. Approved grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis as long as funds are available. After an application has been approved, pay for the service or merchandise, then submit receipts to the executive director (exec-director@hornsociety.org) for reimbursement.
Reimbursement can be sent within the United States by US Bank Check, PayPal, or Zelle. Outside the US, payments can be made by PayPal or Wire Transfer. Wire Transfers usually entail considerable expense, so PayPal is preferred.
For the Project to be self-sustaining, additional capital is needed. Donations can be made on the Donate webpage or by sending a check to the executive director. Designate the donation for the Barbara Chinworth Project.
