Voices of the Sea is a pair of works for horn and chorus, “Sound of the Sea” on a poem by Longfellow, and “All the Sea Sang” on a poem of Emma Lazarus. The first is meditative, based almost entirely on a 6-note scale, and the second is a high energy composition, ecstatic and upbeat at the end.
